Corn Stoves

Corn Stoves

With the constantly rising cost of energy and ever-changing economy, many individuals and families are turning to alternative ways to heat their homes. One way to heat your home that not many people have heard of is using corn stoves. Corn stoves are a unique alternative to conventional fuels like propane and natural gas. Corn stoves burn shelled corn to produce a good amount of heat and burn cleaner than other fuels. In fact, there are several government studies showing that corn pollutes the environment less than burning fossil fuels. Plus, corn is a renewable source of energy that can be relied upon indefinitely.

Corn stoves burn granular fuel which is fed into the burning chamber by a container, or hopper, that holds the corn to be burned. This is much like a pellet burning stove. Since this type of fuel will not burn in an open pile, combustion air is usually pumped into the stove. The rate of corn that is fed into the stove can be adjusted according to how much fuel you want to burn and how warm you want to heat your home. A small fan is also needed to blow oxygen into the stove and aid in the combustion process. A fan is also used to help blow the hot air throughout the room. The stove does not require electricity to run and can be used whether there is power or not. Corn stoves can be used to heat your entire house or used to supplement your existing heating system.
